Reality show star, amateur porn hobbyist and regular party fixture; hotel heiress Paris Hilton has decided she would also like to try her hand at being a pop singer. Just because you suspect she hasn't had any formal musical training, never paid dues by belting her heart out with the Mickey Mouse Club, or that she quite possibly bought her way into this whole racket on an expensive whim shouldn't stop you from spending a few frothy minutes with her opening shot, Paris. The single "Stars Are Blind" has a nice breezy faux-reggae vibe, producer Scott Storch sprinkles several tracks with his billion-dollar beats and there's even a tuneless version of "Do Ya Think of Sexy" that actually makes the original sound good. Pulling that off takes some talent, right? ?
Reviews:
Somehow, she managed to refrain from calling this A Night in Paris II, and for that alone, we give thanks. Gwen Stefani might be a little less forgiving. Already ubiquitous first single "Stars Are Blind" is rife with the No Doubter's airy coo, not to mention a lazy Sunday ska heartbeat. You could almost subtitle it "Underneath It All 2" if it weren't for the vampy shorefront video that nods to Ms. Jackson's "Love Will Never Do (Without You)." Even though The Single Life and our nation's morbid fascination with heiress fashionistas may be in a sixteenth minute holding pattern, Paris should be another Hilton family coup. Only problem is, now that the album's been delayed multiple times-the latest allegedly to rush-record a cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy"-will the world wait for Paris to burn? Personally, we think she's money, baby.
